ABOUT THE ARTIST
Susan Outlaw was born in Mainz Germany, 1973. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1975 and settled in a small, rural community in Southern Ontario. Weekend hikes with her family influenced an early love for the
natural world.
Today Susan resides with her family in Ancaster Ontario, an historic community nestled within the Niagara Escarpment, with access to rich farm lands, large tracts of forest, and pockets of small town living. Susan draws inspiration from this area as well as the Atlantic coastline when travel permits.
With a varied interest in subject matter, Susan’s diversity in work has included landscapes, seascapes, still life and urban settings. Outlaw’s paintings are a response to a scene that has moved her in an emotional or spiritual way. “My work maintains a contemplative focus on nature and its restorative, rejuvenating power. Urban dynamics, oppressive commutes, and the hectic pace of life threaten our spiritual and emotional health. It is the hope that my paintings will offer the viewer an escape, a moment of wonder and a return to peace and balance”.
Susan is mostly self represented after fifteen plus years of in-house gallery representation and loves the patron-artist relationship. She has recently submitted works to be shown at the Art Gallery of Burlington and is part of the McMaster Fine Art on-line gallery.
Susan has been teaching since 2016 at the Dundas Valley School of Art and through invitation, she instructs workshops throughout Ontario. Susan also offers en plein air courses annually come spring and fall. Recently Susan has been added to the Mastrius community offering on-line mentorship.
Outlaw’s work can be found in various private and corporate collections internationally.
